Ready for some summer sippin’?
Greenbar Distillery (DTLA): Litty Mathew and Melkon Khosrovian’s Greenbar Distillery produces small-batch, organic spirits in L.A. In 2008, the husband-and-wife team launched Greenbar’s TRU organic vodka. A line of fruit-derived beverages followed. Now available: canned highballs, including Greenbar’s Italian ginger spritz with a vibrant balance of spicy ginger, lime and bitter gentian. Greenbar also partnered with Sustainable Harvest International. For each bottle and case of canned cocktails sold, a tree is planted in the rainforests of Central America as part of a world reforestation effort. This year, Greenbar Distillery reached a milestone: 1 million trees planted.
Bearded Tang: Jonathan Chiusano and his brewery team created the Raspberry Beret, a nitrogenated version of the brewery’s Tangy Sour served on draft at Rodeo 39 Public Market in Stanton. This kettle-sour-infused beer with hints of vanilla evokes a raspberry sundae. We hope they start canning it soon. For now, pick up the Peach Blvd fruited wheat beer flavored with hundreds of pounds of peach and apricot puree.
The Bruery: The Placentia-based brewery offers crowlers, cans and bottles of its craft beer for takeaway. Goses are Red is a German gose-style ale inspired by the sweetness of rosé wine with hints of coriander. The Bruery’s brewers finish the ale in an oak foeder and add grapes, which impart a wine-like character and color. The Beauregarde is a barrel-aged sour blonde ale imparted with tart blueberries, just in time for summer. Perfect with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream for a blueberry beer float.
Chapman Crafted: SAVOR Hard Seltzer is brewed and canned at Chapman Crafted in Old Towne Orange. It’s also a low-calorie, low-sugar and gluten-free alcoholic beverage. Available in Mango & Guava and Passion Fruit flavors, it’s not too sweet and travels well for alfresco drinking. “Chapman Crafted had its sights on hard seltzer for some time,” says Wil Dee, who co-founded Chapman Crafted in 2016 with Randy Nelson. “Since hard seltzer undergoes a similar brewing process as beer, we decided to focus on creating a quality product that is great tasting, easy to drink, and attractive to active lifestyles. SAVOR encompasses all these elements and is perfect to greet the summer months ahead.”
Golden Road Brewing: Anaheim’s Golden Road brings summer fruit carts to life with its popular Mango Cart wheat beer. The popular canned beer now has competition. Guava Día channels the flavors of the islands with a blonde ale infused with tropical guava and pineapple. The fruit notes continue with Golden Road’s Balboa Blonde with strawberry and pomegranate notes that pair delightfully with summer salads and barbecue.
