Mamma’s Brick Oven Pizza & Pasta has opened its new, larger location in South Pasadena, complete with a self-serve beer tap wall.

What’s a beer tap wall? Think of the frozen yogurt shops where you fill your own cup, but this wall has beer taps where you can pour your own beer into a 14-ounce glass.

Beer drinkers have to purchase a card that will activate the tap and price the pours. The cards can be loaded with as little as $10 or as much as $100 at a time.

Once your card is tapped out of money, you can refill it to continue raiding the beer taps.

For restaurant co-owner Jaime Inzunza the beer wall is a good way to test the brews before you commit to one.

“If it’s a brand new beer you want to try you can just pour an ounce. It’s a tasting experience and when you find the beer you like, you go for it,” she said.

So far there are 24 beers on the wall, mostly from local breweries.

After 14 years in a much smaller location, Mamma’s opened at 1007 Fair Oaks Ave. in August. Visit mammasbrickoven.com for more information.
