Where to try beer made with avocado this weekend

If National Avocado Day totally slipped your mind again (it was July 31) don’t worry, all is not lost because you can still celebrate California’s state fruit with some brews.

Angel City Brewery is holding its sixth annual Avocado Fest Aug.11-12 with the release its Avocado Ale.

The hazy Kolsch-style ale is released once a year to celebrate the fruit.

It’s made using something called a dry-guac technique and includes honey, cilantro and lime juice and is only sold only at the downtown L.A. brewery. It tends to run out quickly, too, usually within three days for the draft and within two weeks for the cans.

Besides the beer, the weekend will include include food with Downtown Taco serving tacos. Of course there will also be avocado toast — the fancy kind, too, served by AvocaToast by Lizzy, who can usually be found on Sundays at the Brentwood Farmers’ Market.

The brewery also has avocado juggling and an avocado eating contest planned as well as DJs and live music.
